Birmingham: CWG2022 Weightlifting has already given many moments of cheer and celebration to Indian contingent with 7 medals. But the recently concluded 76kg category game was a roller-coaster ride for the audience as well as the participants.
Starting with the performance of Indian participant, Punam Yadav, India faced disappointment in the game. Starting the Snatch round with a best lift of 98kg, Punam got herself in the list of medal contenders.
However, the Clean & Jerk round brought huge learning for the Woman in Blue as she went on to miss all three chances one after another. Starting the round 116kg, Punam failed to have any successful lift. In the last chance, right when she thought she has got it, things went south. Her last attempt was disqualified as she did not lift for 3 seconds.
Indian coach also challenged the decision but got no luck.
CWG2022 Weightlifting: The saga of Junior Commonwealth Record
Winning medals at this stage is a difficult task and winning it with a record under your name is all together. 19-year-old Maximina Uepa made a Junior Commonwealth Record in Clean & Jerk as well as the total after lifting 119 in last round.

Her happiness, however, did not last long when Nigerian Taiwon Liadi walked to the court to break the most recent record by lifting 120kgs.

The brilliance of Canadian Maya Laylor
Maya Laylor was sure of her capabilities from the very start. The best lift of Canadian in Snatch went to 100kg and then the player rested for while the other players tried their chances in Clean & Jerk. Laylor then came at the last and powerfully lifted 123kg.
Maya had then won the gold with that lift but she wasn’t satisfied and went for another lift and created a Commonwealth Games record with 128kg.
