CPC, CEB restructuring plan will continue - Minister

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that although Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) trade unions protest against the proposed restructuring plan, it will continue to work for the restructuring.The government has presented a proposal to restructure the CPC, which is continuously making losses. 

However, Petroleum Corporation trade unions of the have protested the proposed restructuring plan. He said that the restructuring programme will continue.

He said that the workers’ right to protest is not challenged but there is no other option but to restructure the institutions, which continue to make losses and are a burden to the government, the people and the Treasury.

Minister Wijesekara further said that not only the CPC but also the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) continues to incur losses and both these institutions will be restructured .

The minister emphasized that restructuring of both the petroleum and electricity sectors will continue.
