Centre refuses claims of providing housing to Rohingyas in Delhi

New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday dismissed the claims regarding providing EWS flats to Rohingya “illegal migrants” in the national capital. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia also took a jibe at Delhi Chief Minister Arvin Kejriwal.

Said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in an official statement: “With respect to news reports in certain sections of the media regarding Rohingya illegal foreigners, it is clarified that Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has not given any directions to provide EWS flats to Rohingya illegal migrants at Bakkarwala in New Delhi.”

It further informed that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government proposed to shift the Rohingyas to a new location. However, MHA has directed the latter to ensure that the Rohingya illegal foreigners will continue at the present location at Kanchan Kunj, Madanpur Khadar.

It cited that the Centre is already in talks with the concerned country regarding “deportation of illegal foreigners.”

This came few hours later Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Puri made the announcement claiming to shift Rohingyas.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia reacted upon the matter and took a dig at Delhi government saying, “Delhi CM Kejriwal worried about Rohingyas, not Delhiites.”

“It won’t be wrong to say that ‘Kejriwal ka haath ghuspaithiyon ke saath’. Centre’s policy is clear that there will be no compromise with national security and the country’s resources are for its citizens and not for illegal migrants,” added the BJP leader.

He further informed that, “In meeting headed by Delhi CS on July29, it was decided illegal migrants be shifted to “appropriate” housing.”
