BIG BREAKING: Cairo’s Coptic Church on fire, 41 dead

New Delhi: According to church officials, a fire that started Sunday in a Coptic Christian church in Cairo, Egypt, resulted in the deaths of 41 people.

Officials said that the fire began inside the Abu Sifine church in the capital’s working-class Imbaba neighborhood. The cause of the fire remains unclear as of now.

On his Facebook page, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi wrote, “I have mobilized all state services to ensure that all steps are implemented.”

Later, the fire department reported that the blaze had been put out.

Of Egypt’s 103 million citizens, at least 10 million are Copts, making them the biggest Christian group in the Middle East.

In the most populous Arab nation, a predominantly Muslim nation in north Africa, the minority has been attacked and has complained of discrimination.
