Afghanistan: Dozens killed as blast rocks Kabul mosque

Kabul: About 20 people are reported to have been killed in a bomb blast at a mosque in the Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday. According to local media reports, a prominent Islamic cleric has also died in the blast.

The blast took place at Siddiqiya Mosque located in PD 17 area of ​​the city. Kabul Security Department spokesman Khalid Zadran confirmed the news of the blast. He has also told that relief work is going on at the spot and security forces have reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Of the injured, 27 people have been admitted to the hospital for treatment so far. At present, no terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the blast.

A year has been completed since the Taliban captured Kabul and extended their control over most of Afghanistan. In such a situation, there has been an increase in the number of bomb blasts in the country which is already facing severe economic crisis. A major Taliban leader was killed in a bomb blast in Kabul last Thursday. The slain Taliban leader was identified as Rahimullah Haqqani.

According to the statements given by eyewitnesses about the blast, it was a suicide attack. The news of the death of Maulvi Mullah Amir Mohammad Kabuli has also come to the fore in the blast. It is feared that more than 40 people were injured in the accident.

According to officials at the local hospital, about 27 people have been admitted there for treatment, including five children. Taliban spokesman Khalid Zadran confirmed an explosion inside a mosque in Kabul, but did not give details about the dead or injured. A statement issued by the Taliban strongly condemned the blast.
