Wear masks again to prevent COVID-19 spread

The Health Ministry urges the public to wear a well-fitting face mask, avoid crowded places and also to follow all COVID -19 preventive measures since there is a risk of COVID-19 spreading in the country once again.

Health Services Deputy Director General Dr. Hemantha Herath said that the number of people infected with COVID-19 is increasing once again and as per the statistics of the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry Health, 56 COVID-19 cases were reported on Sunday (25).

The total number of COVID cases had increased to 664,900 as at yesterday morning with 56 new cases reported on Sunday. Around 647,623 patients have fully recovered while 740 infected patients are currently under medical care at hospitals and homes.

The Health Authorities also urge the public to get the second booster dose (fourth dose) of COVID 19 vaccine without any delay. The Ministry of Health said that the public interest in getting the second booster dose is still at a minimum level and as per the statistics of the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health only 11,197,563 doses which includes 11,184,014 dose of Synopharm and 13,549 doses of Pfizer have already been administered as the second booster dose. According to the health authorities anyone over 20 years of age can obtain the fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. It has been recommended for persons over 60 years of age and those suffering from chronic medical conditions, which are a high-risk group, to urgently obtain the fourth dose.

Anyone over 20 years of age can obtain this fourth dose by meeting the Medical Officer of Health after receiving a date and time.

Nearly 16 million people have received the first dose while about 14 million people have received the second dose. About 8 million people have received the third dose while approximately 13,700 have received the fourth dose.
