Two held for attempting to assault cops

A suspect was arrested by the Kurunegala Police for attempting to assault police officers and disturbing their duty at a filling station in Gonagama, Kurunegala, on Saturday.

According to Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa, the suspect who was under the influence of alcohol had attempted to attack the officers with a knife when they did not allow him to obtain fuel avoiding the queue.

One officer had assaulted the suspect on his head with handcuffs for their safety. Later he was hospitalized by his friends. Kurugnegala Police arrested the suspect at the hospital. He is a 40-year-old resident of Nikadalupotha, Kurunegala. Meanwhile, police arrested another suspect who had attempted to assault police officers on duty at a filling station in Piliyandala on Friday night.

According to the Police Media Spokesman, the suspect had attempted to obtain fuel by avoiding the queue three times, with a motorcycle and a lorry.

He had attempted to assault the officers with a handsaw after he was asked to leave the place. Police arrested the suspect. He is a 43-year-old resident of Kahapola, Madapatha.
