Three suspects, who were arrested while producing substitutes for petrol by adding various chemicals and selling them, have been released on bail of Rs 100,000 each.
According to the information received by the Police Intelligence officials attached to the Mount Lavinia Division, the three suspects were arrested in the Madapata area.
The 45-yar-old suspect produced this substitute for petrol. He has brought some chemical substance from Dubai and mixed it with the commonly used chemical variety in the country to produce this substitute for petrol.
The suspect has told the Police that he was working in Dubai for a while and that is where he got the technical know-how needed to produce a substitute for petrol. Police said that he has also conducted a television programme regarding this product. Police investigations have revealed that he has been producing and selling this product for about a month.
It was also found that this fuel has been mostly provided to three-wheelers and motorcycles.
A litre of this liquid has been sold at to potential customer at Rs. 1000 per litre.
