New Delhi: The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games is all set to kick off from 28 July, 2022 at Birmingham and India contingent will look to improve their performance at the tournament.

Indian athletes at Commonwealth Games 2022 bagged 3 medals in 2018 edition but 33-member team would aim for finishing with better records.

Murali Sreeshankar

India long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has a score to settle at the upcoming Commonwealth Games as the 23-year-old young man was forced to miss the 2018 edition due to appendicitis.

CWG is one of the few remaining major competitions that the national record holder (8.36 meter) is yet to compete in and comes after his maiden appearance at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon. He finished seventh at the event with a 7.95m jump after registering 8m in qualifying.

Annu Rani

India’s national record holder, Annu Rani has a personal best of 63.82m, set in Jamshedpur in May earlier this year. She is the first Indian woman Javelin thrower to go beyond 60 metres. Rani has won Bronze medal in Asian Games at Incheon and a silver in Asian Athletics Championship 2019.

Annu finished seventh in the women’s javelin throw final at the World Championships. Rani had also reached the final at the World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, finishing eighth. Annu Rani is a top contender for the gold at CWG 2022 as she has showed brilliant talent at recently concluded WAC2022.

Avinash Sable

Avinash Sable finished fifth at the Diamond League Meet, which has participation by invitation only, and clocked 8:12.48 to reduce more than three seconds from his previous national record of 8:16.21s.

The 27-year-old soldier from the Mahar regiment, finished 11th in the15 men’s 3000m steeplechase final at the World Athletics Championship 2022. The multiple national record holder is another gold medal hope for India.

Eldhose Paul

Eldhose Paul became the first Indian to qualify for the triple jump final at the World Championships. The 25-year-old Paul has a season’s and personal best of 16.99m which he had recorded while winning gold in the Federation Cup in April. Eldhose finished ninth in the final event.

Rohit Yadav

Rohit Yadav impressed everyone with his recent showing at the World Athletics Championship. He registered an 80.42 m throw in the qualifying round and then finished 10th overall in the finals with a throw of 78.72 m.

Rohit has thrown over 80 m in past with a personal best of 82.54 m which he registered at the National Inter-state Senior Athletics Championship.

Hima Das

Hima Das the speed-runner from the Indian state of Assam, Hima Das is heading to the CWG to compete in the women’s 4X100m relay event. The Indian team for the relay event includes Dutee Chand, Srabani Nanda, MV Jilna, and NS Simi.

Hima had clinched gold in the 4X100m mixed relay event at the Asian Games in 2018. In July 2019, the ‘Dhing Express’ won five gold medals in different world events. Das is yet to win a medal at any big multi-sport event like the Olympics, Asian Games, or Commonwealth Games.
