Welikada Police arrested a suspect with 50 canisters of tear gas at Nanayakkara Mawatha in Obeysekarapura on Sunday.
These canisters are said to be the ones that were forcibly taken away by the protesters at the Polduwa Junction on July 13. The suspect is a 31-year-old resident of Kashyapapura, Polonnaruwa, who is temporarily residing in Gothami Road, Borella. He has been identified as a mason by profession.
Police had seized these canisters at the suspect’s temporary residence. He was to be produced before the Courts yesterday (18).
Welikada Police are conducting further investigations.
