Ruhunu University activist remanded till August 8

Ruhunu University Student Union Convener Anthony Veranga Pushpika De Silva who was arrested by the   Colombo Central Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau was ordered to be remanded till August 8 after being produced before Kaduwela Magistrate yesterday evening.

The suspect has been arrested in relation to investigations carried out regarding the allegations of damage to government property engaging in protests on Thursday (27) afternoon opposite the Colombo Fort railway station, on May 19 and June 9 in the Fort area as well as on June 10 opposite the Isurupaya Education Ministry holding demonstrations in violation of Court orders, being a member of an unruly crowd, criminally forcing police officers etc. The suspect was taken to the Colombo South Crimes Division and later handed over to the Fort Police for further investigations.

The 27-year-old suspect is Anthony Veranga Pushpika de Silva, a resident of Dodanduwa and according to the police, his university studentship has been revoked.
