Prison Dept told to file report on Ranjan’s release

Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe to take the necessary steps to grant a presidential pardon to former Member of Parliament Ranjan Ramanayake who is in prison for Contempt of Court.

Accordingly, Justice Minister Rajapakshe has informed the Prison Department to immediately provide the necessary reports for Ranjan Ramanayake’s release.

Rajapakshe said after receiving the relevant reports, the Acting President will make the final decision after presenting them to the Attorney General and the Chief Justice for their observations.

Earlier Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister had instructed his Secretary Saman Ekanayake to look into the steps to be taken to free the imprisoned former Member of Parliament.
