People have a right to protest peacefully - UN Resident Coordinator

UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka Hanaa Singer yesterday said that the people of Sri Lanka have a right to protest peacefully and demand a better life. She said that protesters should also remain peaceful. “Important for Police and Armed Forces to act with utmost restraint,” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, Norway’s Ambassador in Colombo Trine Joranli Eskedal said that it is crucial that people’s right to expression and peaceful protest is safeguarded during this challenging economic crisis in Sri Lanka.

“It is also everyone’s responsibility to refrain from resorting to violence or use of force which could further deteriorate the fragile situation in Sri Lanka,” Eskedal tweeted.
