Mother at passport office queue delivers baby

A pregnant mother who was in line at the Immigration and Emigration Department in Colombo to obtain her passport, had been rushed to hospital yesterday morning as she went into labour.

 Security Forces personnel on duty had rushed the mother who complained of labour pains, to the Castle Street Hospital where she had delivered the baby. She is a resident of Hatton.

The chief security officer of the Immigration Department said the woman (26) and her husband (25) joined the queue to obtain their passports last night. However, she had experienced labour pains this morning, and the woman was rushed to the hospital by the Army personnel on duty at the Department. Hospital sources said the baby girl and the mother are healthy.
