Magistrate rejects Police request to prevent protesters into Fort

Colombo Additional Magistrate Keminda Perera rejected a request made by Fort Police to issue an order preventing protesters from entering the vicinity of the President’s House in Fort, Colombo on July 8 and 9.

However, the Magistrate denied the Police’s request and instructed the Police to take action under provisions of the Police Ordinance, if protesters behaved in a violent manner.

Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara appearing on behalf of the police informed the Magistrate that the aforesaid protest would obstruct the movement of public and it would affect the economy of the country.
