The Sri Lanka Army has initiated an internal investigation in connection with the incident at a filling station at Yaggahapitiya in Kurunegala where an Army officer attacked a civilian which went viral on social media.

A video showing an Army officer kicking a man in the chest while two soldiers were holding him by the hand at a filling station was shared on social media.

The Police say that the young man who has been attacked is a guard in a coconut plantation in that area.

He had come to get fuel for his motorbike and because of his unruly behaviour he was taken into custody by the military personnel who were deployed to guard the petrol station.

An Army Colonel who was present at the place had come to the place and kicked him in the chest.

A person who recorded the incident with a mobile phone released it to social media and it is currently being heavily discussed in the society.
