Galle Face protesters yesterday said that the new President Ranil Wickremesinghe will be sent home within a month.
The protesters at a press conference held at Galle Face after the new president was elected in parliament said their struggle will continue unabated in a novel way. “We cannot betray the expectations of the people”, they said. Activists Lahiru Weerasekera and Fr.Jeevantha Peris spoke at the press conference.
They also mentioned that the aspirations of the people cannot be betrayed and that the peaceful struggle dedicated to removing the former president will continue in a new form.
The activists said that the people will take care of the 134 legislators who voted in favour of President Ranil Wickremesinghe. “The President is trying to suppress the struggle”, they said.
They said said that people’s opinion takes first place in every case, and the MPs will understand about the people’s opinion at the upcoming elections.
