Arson attack on Fifth Lane residence: Red notice for politician’s son

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken steps to obtain a red notice from the International Police to arrest a wanted person in relation to the investigations conducted

by the CID regarding the arson attack on the private residence of Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe at Fifth Lane, Colombo on July 9. The CID has uncovered that the suspect a son of a former Deputy Minister had left the country after the incident. CID sources said that the matter has been reported to court after receiving necessary instructions from the Attorney General. The Criminal Investigation Department has identified the suspect as the son of a former Deputy Minister who is currently engaged in politics with an Opposition party.

Investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department have revealed that the suspect posted a video on social media to gather people to the residence of Wickremesinghe before setting fire to the house of the Acting President. It has been revealed that he went to the airport on the night of the arson attack on Premier’s house and left the country the next day to Dubai. The Criminal Investigation Department suspects that he has travelled to a European country from Dubai. Criminal Investigation Department officers are looking for a woman who recorded the video released by the suspect on social media. So far, four people have been arrested on suspicion of setting fire to the house of the Acting President.
