Adani power projects delayed

By Ifham Nizam

Two renewable energy projects by India’s Adani Group to generate 500 MW at a cost of USD 500 million will be further delayed due to conflicts of interest here, a senior official said.

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera is keen to go ahead with the project.

Director General (DG) of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) Sulakshana Jayawardana has tendered his abrupt resignation last week, furthere delaying the project.

The Director General had resigned as he was opposed to granting provisional approval to the Adani solar project here.

“The Ministry of Power Energy tried to get this document signed last week t but due to the decision taken by the DG, they couldn’t do so,” an official said.
