2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto: All-new platform

The Alto joins Maruti’s modular Heartect platform family that underpins cars like the S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Swift, Dzire, Ignis, Baleno, Ertiga and XL6.

This new chassis offers many benefits starting with making the new generation Alto a safer vehicle.

Built on advanced and high-strength materials, the platform is better equipped to absorb and distribute impact energy. This will be in the event of a collision to ensure passenger safety.

The Heartect platform provides a better driving experience in terms of handling. Stability and control, better handling and better NVH (noise, vibration and harshness).

The new Alto is expected to be longer, wider and taller. As compared to the outgoing model, there will be more fuel efficient thanks to its lighter underpinnings.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto: Dual Powertrain Options

The current generation Alto offers a single engine – 796cc with 47.3 bhp and 69 Nm, which the new model will retain.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the outgoing model returns a mileage of 22.05 kmpl. We expect the 2022 model to be even more economical. This power unit will continue to mate to a 5-speed manual transmission.

It’s not confirmed yet, but ahead of time, the Alto could also offer a more powerful 998cc K10C petrol engine with dual-flow technology. This have been already observed in the S-Presso, WagonR and Celerio. The engine produces 65 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque.

If Maruti gives the green light to this engine, then it could be available with two transmissions — a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

The Celerio returns an average fuel economy of around 25 kmpl with the manual transmission and more than 26 kmpl with the AMT. This means that the 2022 Alto will be more fuel efficient.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto: Design and Features

Alto’s styling elements are inspired by Celerio. Large recessed headlights, a new mesh front grille, redesigned fog lights and hood make the hatch look much more modern and mature.

The Alto 2022 looks much taller and the rear has a clean design with square tail lamps with new bumpers. The Alto wheel size should continue to be 13 inches.

Maruti Suzuki has improved the cabin with a newly designed dashboard, instrument cluster and steering wheel. It could also offer a host of new features like a touchscreen. Including infotainment system, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, keyless entry, etc.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto: The Competition

The new Alto will go up against the Renault Kwid and its taller sibling the S-Presso. The current generation Alto is available from Rs 3.39 lakh to Rs 4.41 lakh. Therefore, the 2022 model will be slightly higher. The S-Presso and Kwid start at Rs 4.25 lakh and Rs 4.64 lakh, respectively, ex-showroom Delhi.
