Youth who robbed SP’s firearm on May 9 arrested

An 18-year-old youth has been arrested in Maligawatte for allegedly damaging two police vehicles and assaulting a Superintendent of Police in the Panchikawatte area and robbing his firearm.

The suspect was found in possession of a stolen firearm and 10 live bullets.

Following the attack on peaceful protesters in Kollupitiya and Galle Face on May 9, a group including a suspect had attacked SP Nalaka Senanayake’s official vehicle and another Police vehicle.

The suspect had robbed the SP’s firearm was arrested by the CID, a senior CID official said.

The arrested suspect, a trader was produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate.

The CID is conducting further investigations
