New Delhi:

Netflix on Sunday announced Season 2 of the wildly popular Korean thriller Squid Game. The first season of the dystopian drama received a thunderous response from across the globe, emerging as the most-watched non-English show on Netflix. In just four weeks of its release, the show posted a total of 1.65 billion hours of streaming becoming the most-watched Netflix content of all time. As Squid Game fans anticipate the new season, new theories have started making rounds on social media. A section of netizens has also quipped that Gong Yoo, who featured as a recruiter in the first season, may play an important role in the second season. Without sharing many details, director Hwang Dong-hyuk has also hinted at the return of Gong Yoo.

On Sunday, Netflix posted a teaser of Squid Game Season 2. They wrote, “Red light… GREENLIGHT! Squid Game is officially coming back for Season 2.” In the same thread, the streaming giant also shared the director’s note for the fans. The post was captioned, “Hwang Dong-Hyuk writer, director, producer, and creator of @squidgame has a message for the fans:”  The message read, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show. And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend Cheoul-su.”

After the phenomenal success of season one, second part of Squid Game was inevitable. In January, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos had officially confirmed that more episodes of
