Uttar Pradesh: 5 prison officials suspended for helping Mukhtar Ansari

Lucknow:

Authorities have suspended five jail officials for allegedly providing ‘special facilities’ to Mukhtar Ansari, a gangster-turned-leader lodged in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district jail.

Another official said that Deputy Jailor Vireshwar Pratap Singh was also accused of obstructing the routine investigation process when Banda District Magistrate Anurag Patel went to the jail for a surprise inspection. 

Vireshwar Pratap Singh was suspended on the basis of the report of the district administration to the state government. Four jail wardens posted under Ansari’s protection have also been suspended.

Officials said that during the investigation, “not mentioned in the jail manual” items were found in Mukhtar Ansari’s barracks.

a former state assembly member from Mau, was transferred to Banda Jail in April last year after spending more than two years in a Punjab jail. In compliance with the order of the Supreme Court of March 2021, he was transferred to Banda Jail. Mukhtar Ansari is facing trial in several criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh.
