Two weeks leave for Faculty freshers harassed by seniors

Peradeniya University’s Allied Health Sciences Faculty has decided to grant two weeks emergency leave to first year students due to harassment by a group of senior students.

It is learned that the Faculty has taken this decision in view of the pressure exerted by the senior students involved in a political movement not to allow first year students to engage in academic activities.

It is learnt that these senior students are forcing these first year students to support their political activities. The faculty has made this decision after a group of first year students made a complaint to the university management via email. Although the faculty had decided to reach an agreement with the students on June 8 regarding the relevant issues, the students have boycotted the discussion.

It is reported that the Faculty Dean and academics who met at 1.00 pm on the same day, has decided to give two weeks leave to the first year students and withdraw from academic activities of the Second, Third and Fourth year students during that time.

All examinations, lectures, practical training programmes and clinical activities of final year students will not be conducted for a period of two weeks.
