Newly appointed Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe yesterday transferred his monthly salary to strengthen his Ministry’s Sports Fund.
Soon after assuming his official duties at the Ministry, he took steps to remit his pay to the Sports Fund.
Minister Ranasinghe met with Ministry officials and staff to discuss issues affecting the Ministry and the obstacles the Ministry faces in addressing them. The Ministry staff pointed out that the Treasury had reduced funding to their Ministry due to the country’s economic crisis. Minister Ranasinghe said that sportsmen and sportswomen require nutritional food and proper facilities to engage in sports.
“They shall not neglect their training and they shall train continuously and vigorously,” he said.
