SLPP PS member, two others surrender

Former Arachchikattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman and present Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) PS member Jagath Samantha and two others arrested yesterday after surrendering to the Arachchikattuwa Police over Friday’s (17) attack on two persons including a Police officer.

Jagath Samantha is the brother of the SLPP Parliamentarian Sanath Nishantha, who was recently released on bail over the May 9 mob attack on peaceful protestors at Galle Face.

The suspects were wanted by the Police for assaulting a person and obstructing and assaulting a Police officer at the Arachchikattuwa filling station on Friday. They were reported missing and had fled the area evading arrest during the weekend.

CCTV footage of the filling station clearly shows the suspects assaulting an elderly person. The victim had later been admitted to hospital. The suspects were to be produced before the Chilaw Magistrate yesterday. Police are investigating.
