"Shocked & appalled by the insensitivity...," Hrithik Roshan slams makers of Layer'r Shot advertisement

New Delhi:

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Saturday directed social media platforms YouTube and Twitter to take down an advertisement video of Layer’r Shot deodorant that ‘promotes rape culture’.

Many Bollywood celebrities have raised their voices against the disgusting picturization of the advertisement. Hrithik Roshan too took to his Instagram and gave a befitting answer to the ‘Want a Shot’ question.

Sharing a picture where a guy says ‘I want a shot,’ and the girl slaps him saying, ‘Here take a shot!’ HR wrote, “Shocked & appalled by the insensitivity of this commercial. How could the entire team associated with this project think this was OK to make and showcase?”

” Kudos to the viewers for calling it out & the regulatory bodies for taking appropriate action,” he added.

Bollywood actor, Richa Chadha also commented and said that the agency that made this ad needs to be sued for the “filth” they’re serving.

“This ad is not an accident. To make an ad, a brand goes through several layers of decision making. Creatives, script, agency, client, casting…DOES EVERYONE THINK RAPE IS A JOKE? Revelatory! This brand, the agency that made this ad need to be sued for the filth they’re serving,” she tweeted.

On Richa Chadha’s tweet, Priyanka Chopra wrote, “Shameful and disgusting. How many levels of clearance did it take for this commercial to be green lit. How many people thought this was ok? I’m so glad that it was called out and the ministry has taken it down. Appalling!.”

In one of the ads, four men were seen debating over who will get the first ‘shot’ while a woman was sitting on the bed next to her boyfriend. Seeing the boys arguing over it, the woman gets uncomfortable considering herself the subject of the conversation. That is when, a boy from the group goes past the lady to grab the bottle of ‘Layer’r shot’ that explains the topic of the conversation.

The advertisement for the perfume brand shows four men in a convenience store, standing behind a woman. The men are then heard saying “there are four of us, but there’s only one, who will get a shot”. It then shows the visibly shocked woman turning to them uncomfortably when one of them went to grab a single bottle of ‘Shot’ perfume kept on a rack.

On social media, the video has been critically condemned for its objectionable representation.
