PUNJAB / NEW DELHI:

Travel between Delhi and Punjab will now become a bliss. Punjab’s AAP Government has started a Super Deluxe Volvo bus service between Punjab & IGI Airport, New Delhi. Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann flagged off the new fleet from Jalandhar ISBT today. The Punjab Government has started a luxury bus service ending the monopoly of private transporters. People will be able to reach Delhi at just Rs 1170. On this occasion, Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “Earlier people had to fall into the shackles of the mafia, but now there is an honest government in Punjab to protect them. What AAP’s government has done in just 3 months, previous governments could not do in their whole tenures. There has been no such attack on corruption anywhere in the last 70 years in the country as there has been in Punjab in the last three months. AAP’s government has freed about 5,500 acres of land in the last three months; if the old government had been here still, it would have occupied even more land. The Punjab Government has started the work of recruiting 25 thousand people; 26 thousand temporary workers will soon get permanent jobs through a bill in the budget session. Earlier, the patron of all the gangsters, anti-social and anti-national elements used to sit in the government, now there is no one left to give them political protection.” CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann informed, “You will be able to book bus tickets online three months in advance, tickets can be booked six months in advance from the counters too. For decades, only private transporters were running buses on this route, now the transport mafia will be a thing of the past.”

Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann flagged off Super Deluxe Volvo Buses that will ply between Punjab and IGI Airport, today. The flagging off ceremony took place at ISBT Jalandhar where both the CMs paid floral tributes to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s statue and sought his blessings. Present on the occasion were Transport Ministers of Delhi and Punjab, Shri Kailash Gahlot and Shri Laljit Singh Bhullar as well as the Transport Commissioners of both the states and Punjab Cabinet Ministers Shri Lal Chand Kataaruchak, Dr Baljeet Kaur, Shri Harbhajan Singh ETO, Shri Harjot Bains and Shri Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal along with local MLAs. Punjab Government’s buses will travel directly to Terminal 3 of IGI Airport in Delhi. This will greatly aid passengers in coming to IGI Airport from Punjab ensuring comfort and saving money.

Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal addressed the gathering after flagging off the buses and said, “People of Punjab will now be able to travel directly from Punjab to New Delhi Airport beginning today. The Punjab Government is starting luxury buses with all amenities, including air conditioning and comfortable seats, to ensure a blissful ride. Many NRIs get exploited by the bus mafia when they are visiting their hometowns and villages. The fare for a single side was around Rs 3,000-5,000, but they had no choice but to travel from those buses by paying such exorbitant fares, which will no longer be the case. Punjab now has an honest government.”

The Delhi CM bashed the previous governments for neglecting public interest and working for personal gains. Their reigns were stinking because of stagnancy where the only change was the parties running the government. He said, “Earlier, a party that was in power used to run private buses owned by their people to earn profits at the peril of government buses. Later, another party came to power and colluded with the former to have a share in that profit, which again meant that government buses were not allowed to run. An honest government brought a change within three months, something which others could not do in decades. The system and officers were the same in all the governments and what changed was the top leadership in the state. After the transfer of power to AAP’s honest government, citizens have already started getting better facilities.”

CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal shed light on the remarkable progress made by the newly formed Punjab government, terming it an example of modern governance. He said, “The buses which will be flagged off today would be welcomed at the New Delhi Airport as well. All the arrangements have been made for this. When these buses enter Delhi, the state government’s enforcement team will move along them to ensure the safety of the passengers. Punjab Government is about to complete three months as Sardar Bhagwant Mann took oath on 16th March. Today is 15th June, and this is my first visit to Punjab after the ceremony. During this period, the people of Punjab witnessed extensive progress at a rapid pace. Multiple tough decisions were made, something which has been unprecedented in the past 70 years.”

He emphasised the commonality in both AAP governments to foil all the illicit structures of rampant corruption to give a system which serves the people. He said, “We have hit heavily on the menace of corruption in Punjab. An anti-corruption helpline was started with a provision to send evidence of corruption ensuring strict action against culprits. It is now being reported that corruption has been eliminated from the offices that were directly serving the public. We are a staunchly honest government which does not shy away from taking tough decisions within minutes. Earlier governments created a nexus of corruption where the money used to flow from the bottom to the top. Now, the CM, the ministers and the workers, everybody has to be honest or they will be sent to prison.”

CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal asserted that his party has zero-tolerance for corruption and there cannot be any dilution to this principle by creating an exception. He praised the Punjab CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann for going a step forward in his pursuit to protect this principle by saying, “The Punjab Government set an example by sending its own minister to prison, which has happened for the first time in India. We took this action on our own as the media and the opposition did not have an iota of a clue regarding this. When Mann Sahab received a recording where the minister was found to be indulging in wrong activities, he ordered an investigation. The moment guilt was ascertained, he sent him to prison without any delay. A clear message was sent to all the MLAs and officers that, if heavy punishment can be inflicted on a cabinet minister, they are in no position to expect any leniency. There is no place for corruption here.”

Delhi CM shared a personal anecdote after his party curbed the menace of corruption when the government officials pledged to serve the people with vigour and a sense of professionalism. He added, “Earlier there used to exist a transfer mafia where favourable transfer on the posts of all the senior officials, including SP, SSP, DIG, IG and DM was possible in exchange for money. Now, this doesn’t happen anymore as transfers take place without any involvement of money. It made no sense to expect such senior officials who themselves were engaged in such malpractice to take action against criminals. Instead, they colluded with the criminals so that they could earn money and pay for their next transfer. Few honest officials from Punjab came to meet me who paid the price of their integrity by not getting promotions. Tears were running from their eyes as they could not believe that any government would come to power to give them field posting. They never thought that honesty will ever be valued. The Police and civil administration now serve the public with fearlessness provided that they don’t indulge in corruption.”

He brought to the notice of the people the existence of various nexuses in Punjab, which crippled the growth in the country. He said, “Land grabbing was another issue, and we were successful in getting rid of illegal possession of 5,500 acres of land within three months. Previously, governments used to get rid of illegal possession but then, used to allow their people to possess them illegally. We changed this and the government’s land was brought back to the government on a massive scale.”

CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal criticised the previous governments for not sparing even the education of the children in their hunger for money. He said, “We also eliminated the education mafia wherein schools used to hike the fees arbitrarily and force the parents to buy books, stationery and dress from them only. The education mafia could thrive because they had the support of the governments. On April 1st, this mafia got eliminated when Mann Sahab passed an order that there will be no fee hike this year and no school can force the parents to buy books, stationery and dress from them only. Parents will have that choice. From today onwards, there will be no transport mafia in Punjab.”

He also highlighted that public welfare was never a priority for the previous governments, but they rather focused on filling their own pockets. He added, “We also said that we will generate employment on a massive scale. The process has been initiated and work on generating 25,000 jobs is in progress. We are also regularising 26,000 temporary employees by the means of law in this budget session. We also stopped the provision of multiple pensions for the MLAs as per the number of legislative assembly elections they won. This system was flawed as it only allowed the MLAs to become rich in taxpayer money who themselves find it hard to make the ends meet. We didn’t even care that this system would have benefited us as well when we will retire because our intentions were clear that we are here to serve the people and not ourselves. There will be only a single pension from now onwards.”

Delhi CM gave a heavy blow to the attitude of the parties to use crime for their benefits without caring about the reputation of Punjab or giving due regards to the safety of the citizens. He said “The opposition was trying to project that the law and order situation is deteriorating in Punjab. All the gangsters active in Punjab rose and thrived during their reigns. They are like their children. Now, the Government has brought two changes. Firstly, all the gangsters, anti-social elements, and anti-nationals active in Punjab had the support of the government previously. Now there is nobody to save them or give them political protection. Secondly, if any crime takes place in Punjab, the criminals get arrested immediately within days. Heavy punishment is imposed on them. This didn’t happen earlier. Riots took place in Patiala and the suspects were sent to prison in 24 hours. Kabbadi player Sandeep Sandhu was murdered and all his murderers are in prison now. All the people responsible for the Mohali bomb blasts were sent to prison within 3 days. Singer Sindhu Moose Wala was shot dead and the gangster who has planned this murder is being transferred from Delhi tomorrow. Previous governments couldn’t do this. Criminals will be traced and arrested, no matter where they are hiding.”

CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal reiterated his pledge to take swift action against the criminals to give the people of Punjab a state where they can breathe in the air of safety. He said, “In 2017, there was a bomb blast in Maur. No arrests were made in connection to the incident even after five years. This is because the politicians used to save the criminals by pressurising the police earlier. This has changed. We are committed to protecting every single individual in Punjab. In the past three months, more than 130 gangsters have been arrested and soon the time will come that Punjab will be free from gangsters. There will be peace and tranquillity.”

He also exposed the previous governments for sending the mandate of law to a toss and not leaving their privilege at any cost. He said, “There was a VIP culture in the prison where gangsters used to operate from there only. Our government has stopped this. The politicians built VIP rooms in the prisons for themselves, but they have been sealed now. Every prisoner will receive the same treatment. We also confiscated all the mobile phones in the prisons and ensured discipline among inmates.”

CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal went on to enlist the welfare measures taken for the farmers to show that his government actually knows how to respect the farmers through words as well as actions. He said, “We have made announcements for the welfare of the farmers. The one closest to my heart is the one where we announced MSP for moongi. It is our dream, which is also shared by the farmers, to provide MSP for every single crop. The movement has begun and the result will be visible in the near future.”

The Delhi CM concluded by bringing up the issue of addiction which has troubled Punjab the most. He said, “We have taken strict action against addiction. The police have been instructed to not tolerate any case and the dealers should be given the heaviest punishment. It is a complex issue which will take time but we will make it possible. You have given us 92 out of 117 seats, and this majority is unprecedented in the history of Punjab. I am well aware of the expectations which people of Punjab have from us. I assure you that we will fulfil each one of them. Have faith in us. This filth has been there for the past 70 years, which will take some time to get cleaned, but we will be consistent in our pursuit to make Punjab completely free of addiction and full of prosperity.”

Punjab government will run these super luxurious buses that will charge less than half of private transporters and give double facilities than them- CM Bhagwant Mann

Punjab CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann also addressed the gathering on the occasion and backed his government’s new initiative. He said, “This is a historic occasion when the Punjab government has fulfilled its promise with the people by ending monopoly of the private transporters and introducing cheap and luxury travel to IGI airport in merely Rs 1,170 thereby stopping loot of people.”

Daily seven Volvo buses will ply from Jalandhar bus stand to Delhi airport. Likewise, he said that similar buses will also move from Amritsar, Pathankot, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Patiala and even from Chandigarh daily to the airport for facilitating the passengers. CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann said that with the plying of these buses the passengers will get a comfortable, luxurious and cheap travel to the airport at a meagre price.

The Punjab Chief Minister said that passengers desirous of going to airport can get the online booking done prior to three months of travel whereas the tickets can be booked at the counters of bus stand six months ahead of the journey. CM Bhagwant Mann said that his government has got the mandate of the people to serve the state by eliminating the mafia. He said that with the rolling in of these buses the transport mafia will also be a thing of the past.

He bemoaned that for decades only private transporters had run their buses on this route and looted the people by charging impulsively. Squarely blaming the successive Congress and Akali governments for not plying government buses to the airport, he said that vested interests of these leaders prohibited them from doing so. CM Bhagwant Mann said that the transporter leaders of both these parties minted the money illegally by not allowing government buses to operate on this route.

He said that these leaders plundered people’s money mercilessly as former Chief Ministers, Ministers or MLAs flexed their muscles for enhancing the fleet of their buses rather than facilitating the people. CM Bhagwant Mann said that the government’s might was used not for the well being of the public but for promoting transport mafia. He said that these people monopolised the trade and exploited the people.

The Punjab Chief Minister said that his government will take every initiative to safeguard the interests of Punjabis and eliminate all sort of mafia or monopolisation from the state. Bhagwant Mann said that a number of NRIs who came to Punjab from abroad had always complained to him that why only private players have the right to ply buses on this route and why not government buses are running on them. He said that now sounding the death knell for the transport mafia, the Punjab government will run these super luxurious buses that will charge less than half of private transporters and give double facilities than them. CM Bhagwant Mann also thanked the Delhi Government especially the Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal for extending fulsome support and cooperation to them for this noble cause.
