Presidential Polls 2022: Shah, Yogi and other welcome NDA's pick of Draupadi Murmu as presidential candidate

Soon after Draupadi Murmu was named as the BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate, Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday took to her official Twitter account and wrote a series of congratulatory tweets for the former Jharkhand governor.

“Draupadi Murmu ji has made a special identity in public life by spreading awareness about education in the tribal society and serving the public for a long time as a public representative. I wish her all the best on becoming a candidate for this dignified post and I am sure she will definitely win.”  Shah said.

Apart from Shah, Uttar Pradesh Cheif Minister Yogi Adityanath also welcomed Draupadi Murmu’s name as Presidential candidate and also congraluted her. Taking to Twitter Yogi wrote,”Draupadi Murmu ji has made a special identity in public life by spreading awareness about education in the tribal society and serving the public for a long time as a public representative. I wish her all the best on becoming a candidate for this dignified post and I am sure she will definitely win.”

Odhisa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also extended his support to Murmu’s candidature and said her candidature is “indeed a proud moment for people of #Odisha.” 

BJP-led NDA on Tuesday announced former Governor of Jharkhand Draupadi Murmu’s name as a Presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.

On the other hand, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh today announced that former Minister of Finance and External Affairs Yashwant Sinha will be the common candidate of the Opposition parties for the Presidential election, which will take place on July 18, 2022, said a statement.

Murmu is the first major tribal female Presidential candidate in India’s history. Once elected, she will be the first tribal President of India and the second-ever female President.

She is the first major Presidential candidate from Odisha and once elected will become first President of the country from the state of Odisha.
