Power Ministry Secretary held hostage by CPC employees

A group of employees of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) held the Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy hostage during a protest last afternoon.

The employees were staging a protest inside the Ministry in Colombo 7 against the proposal to provide the CPC-run filling stations to several foreign companies to supply fuel.

The protestors first surrounded the vehicle of the Secretary and later took the Secretary into their hostage in protest of the said proposal.

Following the incident, Secretary Mapa Pathirana provided an opportunity for the protestors to hold a discussion with him, it was reported.
