People have completely rejected current leadership - Opposition Leader

Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said the country’s on-going protest campaigns being conducted in Colombo and all parts  of the country on a daily basis clearly indicate that the people have completely rejected the leadership of both the President and the Prime Minister on the grounds that both cannot solve the day today increasing economic issues of 22 million people in the country.

He said people are badly suffering due to the unending queues at fuel stations and also the shortage of several essential commodity items including milk powder, rice and kerosene.

He said not only people but also their families will not further tolerate the sufferings.

The Opposition Leader therefore urged the Government to form a strong Interim Government with members from all political parties represented in Parliament and thereafter go for a General Election to elect a suitable group who can work for the prosperity of the people.

The Opposition Leader further said although the President and the Prime Minister got together to build a better economy and solve the day to day problems of people, such an atmosphere cannot be seen at present when considering the unending queues in the country and the unbearable prices of essential food items.

SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva quoting the latest research on Sri Lanka urged the Government to hold a General Election at least in March next year to select suitable members who can win the people’s trust and confidence.

“Although the Government says that an election cannot be held due to lack of funds, then how can the Government allocate colossal sums of money for unnecessary building constructions and many other activities,” MP Dr.de Silva asked.
