On Retirement of Mithali Raj: Let's reminisce her World Cup journey 2000-2022

New Delhi:

Cricket legend Mithali Raj has bid adieu to international cricket Wednesday, leaving behind a legacy of 2 decade for coming generations. Having more than 2 dozen records on her name, Raj never failed to impress on field with her skills.

Here’s the list of World Cups that she played and her performance.

2000

The veteran women cricketer made her in 1999, and her first World Cup appearance was in 2000 when the Women in Blue ended their campaign at thirst position. Mithali couldn’t not deliver the best of her performance as she was laid low by typhoid.

2005

The young passionate Raj then waited for half-decade to represent her country in the world cup and she did so by leading her side as well as becoming the highest Indian run-scorer and fifth overall. Though, India lost to Australia in the finals 98 runs but the team was seen as one of the toughest to defeat in the world.

2009

The third World Cup campaign for Mithali came in 2009 when the team was led by Jhulan Goswami. The team was thrashed out in the playoff round by Australia but Mithali Raj made her place in the World Cup XI that ICC announced a day after the final of the tournament.

2013

India was the host for this world cup, but the team could not deliver up to their won expectations as they did not make it to super six in the team led by Mithali Raj.

2017

Team India played till the finals of this tournament against England in the historic ground The Lord’s but the team led by Mithali Raj was once again left deprived of touching the silverware as they ended up as runner-up against the hosting country. Coming so close to the all-time dream and losing it by mere 9 runs gave a lost of learning to the women squad and prepared for another tournament.

2022

In last World Cup, Raj had explained how it took time to settle emotions after India had failed to qualify for the semi-finals. After facing a three-wicket defeat against South Africa on Sunday, India ended its campaign on a lower note.
