Nupur Sharma Row: Fresh protests in West Bengal over prophet controversy

Birbhum (West Bengal):

Locals in Birbhum protested on Monday against the remarks of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Hundreds of people gathered to join the protest march.

Protests erupted in various states, including Punjab, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, over remarks made by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled leader Naveen Jindal on Prophet Muhammad.

In particular, some Gulf countries resented the remarks made against Prophet Muhammad.

The Union Home Ministry (MHA) on Friday asked the police chiefs of the states and union territories to be ready and vigilant.

After several incidents of violence, the MHA on Friday issued a statement to the police of all the states and union territories.

A senior Home Ministry official said they had sent alerts to all state and union police to be vigilant, as they could be targeted during the violence.
