New Citroen C5 Aircross to launch in India by September this year

New Delhi:

The Citroen C5 Aircross has recently been upgraded overseas, and this updated version will be launched in India in September 2022, a company source told us. The first edition of the French brand in India was introduced here last year, delivered via a semi-knocked-down (SKD) line, as it will be an updated model.

The Citroen C5 Aircross facelift will continue with 2.0 liter diesel

Citroen has dropped 2.0-liter diesel to overseas markets and engines will be available on 1.5-liter diesel as well as petrol and hybrid, but this will not be the case in India. The SUV will continue the soldier with an existing 177hp, 2.0 diesel unit. Citroen is slowly rolling out diesel engines around the world, and although it will soon launch a compact C3 crossover in India with only petrol engines (and the next electric train), the big C5 Aircross is likely to hold on to diesel in our market, as that is its biggest advantage.

Since VW and Skoda only provide fuel for the Tiguan and Kodiaq, respectively, the C5 Aircross is the only diesel in its class until the Hyundai Tucson. Besides, the 2.0-liter smooth diesel and torquey, coupled with an impressive 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, fits the C5 Aircross’s free-range feature.

The C5 Aircross now gets a standard-looking nose that replaces the split light look of the current model. The new headlights – one-piece folding units – differ in their outer edges, with their LED DRL signature following the pattern. These LED bars are also attached to the grille, but this time the Citroen chevron sign is not part of the pattern and is placed outside it.

The front air duct is lined with large holes, inside the bump that are said to aid the aerodynamics of the car. A block-like pattern on the side assembly with bright inserts is maintained from the current SUV. The new model, however, is discovering new hybrid tire designs of all kinds. Only tail tails seem to have been updated in the background, and now they include rectangular lighting features and get darker.

The 2022 Citroen C5 Aircross comes with major changes inside

There have been major changes inside, most notably the larger 10-inch touch screen. Two-dimensional cubed air-con pipelines are replaced by rectangular-shaped units placed at the bottom of the screen, and shortcut keys from the system touch are retained, though now placed under air-con vents.

The gear lever of the automatic gearbox has opened the way for a toggle switch unit and an updated switchgear for some functions. In addition, Citroen says the front seats are now more comfortable, have 15mm additional padding, and come with heating and cooling features. The updated C5 Aircross also finds additional USB ports in the cabinet and wireless charging.

Citroen to expand its network of retailers in all 19 cities

Citroen has sold more than 3.25 lakh units of C5 Aircross in 85 countries since the current car went on sale. The model was first introduced in India in April 2021 and Citroen managed to sell about a thousand units through its miniscule vendor network. The French company has said it will increase its sales in India to 20 in 19 cities soon to secure sales of the upcoming C3, which will go on sale on July 20, as well as the updated C5 Aircross and upcoming models.

The Citroen C5 Aircross facelift will compete with the new Tucson next

The upgraded C5 Aircross will continue to compete with the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Compass and Volkswagen Tiguan. It will also see a new competitor in the new Hyundai Tucson model that will go on sale in the coming months.
