Nethmi Muhandiram talented Taekwondo player and athlete

Nethmi Gauravi Muhandiram, a Grade Thirteen student of Nugawela Central College,Kandy is a talented Taekwondo player and an Athlete and before joining this School she was at Galagedara Central School where she started both sports disciplines. Her Taekwondo and Athletic Coach at Galagedara Central was Anusha Pathirana and Nethmi joined Nugawela

Central for her higher studies as well as to improve her talents in athletics and Taekwondo. At the start she showed her Athletic talent by winning 200 metre race and second place in Long Jump events at the Divisional Sports Meet in the year 2015. In the year 2017 she secured the first place in 100 Metre race, Long Jump and Triple Jump at the Inter House Athletic Championship of the School at the Under Fourteen age group. In the year 2018 Nethimi won the 100 Metre race and came second in Long Jump event at the Katugastota Zonal Meet and in 2019 she continued her winning spree by securing second place in 80 Metre Hurdles and second place in Long Jump event and third place in Triple Jump event.

While involved in Athletics she got interested in Taekwondo and she was able to win a Merit Award at the Inter School Taekwondo Championship in the year 2014 and from there onwards she improved in that sport by winning the third place at the Second Korean Ambassador’s Cup in the year 2016. In the same year she was awarded a Black Belt in Taekwondo and won the Sri Lanka Schools Taekwondo Championship. In the year 2017 at the 3rd Korean Ambassador’s Cup she won a Gold Medal and the Poomsae Black Belt and in the following year she took part in the Under 15 to 17 age groups and won a Gold Medal again in the 42 Kg. weight class. She came Second at the Korean Ambassador’s Cup in 2018 and in the same year she came second and won a Silver Medal at the Jirak Taekwondo International Championship and she won the Junior Sambo National Championship too in 40 Kg. and won a Gold Medal. In 2019 she came third in the Sri Lanka Schools Taekwondo Championship held in Thailand and in the same year she came second at the All Island School Games in the 42/44 Kg Class and won a Silver Medal. In 2016 she won the International Black-Belt Dan I and in the year 2019 she won the International Black Belt Dan 2 and in January, 2021 she won the International Black Belt Dan 3 and her intention is to continue both her sports to come to a higher standard.
