National Herald Case: Congress slams Delhi Police raid on party headquarters

National Herald Case:

Congress workers and leaders staged protests for the third consecutive day as former party chief Rahul Gandhi continued to be grilled by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the National Herald case.

Congress workers staged a demonstration in front of the ED office even as party leaders accused the central government of carrying out a witch hunt against Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala accused the Delhi Police of assaulting party workers inside the Congress headquarters on Wednesday.

“The whole country is watching this orgy of terror and oppression. Modi ji, Amit Shah and Delhi Police listen, we will remember everything. After the persecution of CMs, MPs, former Union Ministers, senior leaders and women, the police raided and attacked the headquarters of the country’s main opposition party INC India,” Surjewala wrote in a message on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached the Enforcement Directorate (ED) headquarters at around 11.30 am on the third day of interrogation in the money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper.

Congress workers protesting outside the party headquarters today were detained by the police and put in buses. Police have deployed heavy security around the ED office and a curfew has been imposed.

Women Congress workers staged a protest against the petition and in support of Rahul Gandhi and they started chanting slogans lying on the ground in front of the police, after which the police detained them.

Women Congress activists said that the police are not allowing them to go to the Congress office nor are they being allowed to march peacefully on the road.

In the National Herald case, the ED has summoned Rahul Gandhi for questioning for the third day in a row. It is being reported that ED is not satisfied with Rahul Gandhi’s answers. Rahul Gandhi was questioned for about 12 hours yesterday.

According to sources, Rahul has asked the ED not to call him repeatedly for questioning. Rahul Gandhi has been interrogated for about 21 hours in two days.

Earlier, senior Congress leaders held a press conference and attacked the Modi government. Rajasthan CM Gehlot said that the government is creating an atmosphere of hatred in the country. 

“Rahul Gandhi is standing alone in front of the government, so he is being targeted,” he said.
