Ms Marvel: Marvel hits gold as it welcomes first Muslim superhero to MCU

New Delhi:

Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is here with its newest superhero Kamala Khan. In the first episode of the show, we are introduced to a teenager Kamala (Iman Vellani), MCU’s first Muslim superhero who is an ardent Captain Marvel fan. Her room is filled with Marvel posters and designs. The biggest concern of her life right now , is whether she can convince her strict South Asian parents to let her attend an AvengerCon. In between this, she is also trying to find her place in the city of New Jersey with her over-protective mother keeping her feet on the ground. The story follows her life and adventures as she gets superpowers and becomes a bona fide Marvel superhero. In addition, the

new character has brought to the Marvel Universe a part of the world — South Asia — that is largely new and under-explored.

You would want to cheer for Kamala after seeing her find delight in every move that she makes in her newfound superpowers, even if she is unable to control them. There is never a dull moment whenever she appears on screen. It’s also fulfilling to see her eyes twinkle as she matches the steps of her predecessors.

The series has been created by Bisha K Ali, and is a fun and sweet coming-of-age story of a young girl discovering her place in the world. From here, it is expected that the series will further grow and we will get to see Kamala Khan taking on more adventures with her newly found powers.

Added bonus for the South-Asian community is the show is filled with Indian-Pakistan and desi references in general, from Partition stories to Shah Rukh Khan and his films.
