Police are searching for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Puttalam District MP Sanath Nishantha’s brother Jagath Samantha for brutally assaulting a police officer and another person at a filling station in Arachchikattuwa on Friday.
According to police, the suspect had first assaulted a person who had come to obtain diesel and then a police officer, who had been involved to prevent the attack on that person. The suspect had also torn the uniform of the police officer after assaulting him.
Jagath Samantha is the former Chairman of the Arachchikattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha.
The person who was assaulted by the suspect has been admitted to the Chilaw Hospital.
The main suspect of the incident and two other wanted suspects have already fled the area evading arrest.
Police are conducting investigations.
