Masks not mandatory from today

It is no longer be mandatory to wear a face mask outdoors or indoors in Sri Lanka from today.

Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena said that the individuals will no longer be required to wear a facemask within    indoor and outdoor settings in Sri Lanka.

The decision to remove the mask mandate has been issued under the Quarantine and Prevention of Disease Ordinance No.03 of 1897.

The mask mandate was imposed first in Sri Lanka following the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.

Health authorities continue to encourage persons having respiratory issues to wear a facemask and the mask removal does not prevent persons from wearing a facemask voluntarily.

Dr.Gunawardena announced that a COVID-19 PCR Test or a Rapid Antigen Test should not be conducted as a screening test from today onwards.
