Maruti Suzuki opens Asia's largest 20MWp car port type solar plant in Manesar

New Delhi:

Maruti Suzuki has installed a 20 MWp1 solar plant at its Manesar facility, which will be able to contribute 28,000 MWh2 every year towards energy needs. The electricity produced would be equivalent to the energy required to produce more than 67,000 cars annually. View details.

Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest car seller, has set up a 20 MWp1 solar plant at its Manesar facility. This initiative will contribute 28,000 MWh2 every year to the company’s energy needs. The electricity produced would be equivalent to the energy required to produce more than 67,000 cars annually.

Reinforcing its commitment to maximize the use of renewable energy in operations, the company has installed such a large solar plant. The 20 MWp car-port style solar power plant has been designed using the concept of East-West direction with maximum output per MW using minimum land. Additionally, the facility has the space to park approximately 9,000 ready vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki is using solar energy since 2014. Firstly it set up its first solar power plant of 1 MWp capacity at its Manesar plant, which was later increased to 1.3 MWp. Taking this initiative forward, Maruti Suzuki commissioned a 5MWp carport style photovoltaic solar power plant at its Gurugram plant in the year 2020. With the new 20 MWp solar plant at Manesar, the company’s solar energy generation capacity combined at its plants now stands at 26.3MWp. This expansion will reduce CO2 emissions by 20,000 tonnes every year.
