A person has been arrested by the Bogawantalawa Police on suspicion of abusing a 15-year-old schoolgirl. The suspect is the husband of the abused girl’s elder sister.
The suspect had abused the girl on several occasions and when the incident was reported she was six months pregnant, police said.
The suspect is a resident of the Dolosbage area in Nawalapitiya. Police investigations have revealed that the suspect had abused the girl when he visited her sister’s house in the lower part of Campion Estate, Bogawantalawa.
The family health officer in the area had noticed a change in the student’s behaviour and then had referred her to the Bogawantalawa Regional Hospital for an examination.
After a medical examination, which confirmed that she was six months pregnant, a family health officer informed the Bogawantalawa Police.
