Mamata Banerjee calls for opposition parties' meet tomorrow

New Delhi: 

TMC chief and Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee calls for opposition parties’ meet tomorrow in which she has asked the leaders of Grand Old Party including Chief Ministers of several other parties

to participate

. The meeting is scheduled to take place at Constitution Club of India, New Delhi. Senior Congress leaders

  Mallikarjun Kharge, Jairam Ramesh and Randeep Singh Surjewala will also be present in the meeting. 

Mamata Banerjee in her letter to opposition leaders said, “at a time when our democracy is going through troubling times, I believe that a fruitful confluence of opposition voices is the need of the hour; to echo the deprived and unrepresented communities.” 

Didi called for the meet at a time when several opposition leaders are being interrogated by Central agencies in different cases. Yesterday, Rahul Gandhi was questioned for almost 10 hours by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in National Herald case. Another objective of the meeting is to discuss presidential elections which are around the corner. 

Setting the tone for the presidential election, Mamata wrote that, “the presidential election around the corner, presenting the perfect opportunity for all progressive opposition parties to reconvene and deliberate on the legislators the opportunity to participate in deciding the Head of our State who is the custodian of our democracy.” 

The presidential election is scheduled to be held on July 18 and result of the same will be announced on July 21.
