Kanpur violence: BSP chief Mayawati demands fair investigation 'by rising above religion, caste and party politics'

New Delhi:

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday demanded fair investigation from the Bhartiya Janata Party-led Uttar Pradesh government ‘by rising above religion, caste and party politics’ in a stone-pelting incident occurred in Kanpur on Friday.

“The government should take strict legal action against the culprits by rising above religion, caste and party politics and conducting a free and fair high-level inquiry into this incident so that such an incident does not happen in the future. Along with this, an appeal to the people to avoid provocative speeches etc. to maintain peace and law and order,” said the BSP supremo.

In a series of tweets, the BSP supremo said, “It is very sad, unfortunate and worrying as well as a failure of the police intelligence that the riots and violence in Kanpur erupted during the visit of the President and the Prime Minister to UP.  The government has to understand that in the absence of peace and order, how is investment and development possible in the state?”
