Jammu and Kashmir: Security forces nab Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist in Kishtwar

Aasif Suhaf, Srinagar:

In a blow to the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist outfit, a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the 17 RR unit of the Indian Army and the CRPF managed to nab a terrorist in Kishtwar district on Sunday.

The terrorist has been identified as Talib Hussain Gujjar, son of Noor Mohammad. He is a resident of Rashgwari Padyarna village in Nagsini Tehsil of Kishtwar district. The terrorist was apprenhended while he was trying to leave the jurisdiction of Kishtwar district with a changed identity.

Pakistan backed terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) has started regrouping and strengthening its cadre by making fresh recruitment in the mountainous Kishtwar district that has witnessed mass destruction with the onset of terrorism in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir three decades ago and arrest of Talib Gujjar is certainly a set back for them.

Talib Gujjar disappeared mysteriously in the month of July 2016. His family members lodged a missing complaint with the Kishtwar police at Police Post Padyarana on March 21, 2017.

He was finally declared an active terrorist with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) on June 20, 2018 after account of various witnesses. It was found that father of five children, Talib Gujjar had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist outfit and was seen roaming around with weapons in upper reaches of Marwah and Dachhan areas of Kishtwar district along with a few other terrorists active in the area.

The sources said that his family members also approached senior police officers and sought their help in motivating him to shun the path of terrorism and return to the mainstream, but all in vain.

After declaring Talib Hussain an active terrorist, the security agencies kept an eye on him and arrested him on Sunday after more than 5 years.

Kishtwar is the only district in Jammu province where the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) has an active footprint. The Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) is being led by dreaded commander Mohammad Amin Butt alias Jahingeer Saroori while his associate Raiz Ahmed from Marwah and Muddassir Ahmed from Dachhan remain part of the group and carried a bounty of more than Rs.50 lakhs.

Talib Gujjar, according to sources, belongs to a local Gujjar tribe who is familiar with the local hilly routes in Nagsini, Marwah, Dachhan and adjoining Padder area of Kishtwar district and helps terrorists to move safely from one place to another place.

The sources said that agencies are looking for the OGW network of the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in Kishwar district and are searching for the persons who are motivating and luring the youths towards terrorism, a practice commonly seen in the Kashmir Valley.

The sources said that in recent past security forces has launched several search operations after the inputs about the movement of suspected terrorists in different areas of the Kishtwar district including Jahingeer Saroori, however nothing was found by the security forces.

Saroori and his two associates Raiz and Muddassir to which Talib Gujjar was also a part, their name has surfaced in the killing of BJP leader Anil Parihar and his brother Ajeet Parihar along with the killing of RSS leader Chanderkant Sharma.

The arrest of Talib Gujjar by Kishtwar police and army is being seen as a big success by the security forces that can help them to come close to most wanted Hizb terrorist Jahingeer Saroori who is active in the area since last over three decades.

Talib Hussain joined the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in the year 2016 and remained active in Kishtwar and remained instrumental in reviving of terrorism by way of recruiting gullible youths.

But later on, due to some squabble with other Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorists, he left the group and  remained at large. However, the Kishtwar Police worked meticulously on the leads obtained about his whereabouts and pre empted his move to affect the revival of terrorism in the area as he got arrested after dodging the police and other security agencies for a long time.

A case FIR 127/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in police station Kishtwar and investigations have been started.
