India expanding nuclear arsenal, these 9 countries are biggest atomic powers

New Delhi:

Military strength is essential for any nation. There are no two opinions on the fact that in the present times, nuclear weapons are the major basis of a nation’s power. The way in which Russia has exerted pressure in the name of nuclear attack during the Russia-Ukraine war also drew attention to this.

Now a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has shown a glimpse of the changing trend globally in the matter. It has also revealed that India is increasing its stockpile of nuclear weapons.

Countries are strengthening themselves

The report says that India, Pakistan and China are working to strengthen themselves in the matter of nuclear weapons. Although there has been no change in the number in China, its strength has increased with the launch of new launchers throughout the year. Pakistan is also working on a new type of launcher. India and Pakistan do not release any official figures on the number of their nuclear weapons.

The number of US and Russian weapons has decreased

The United States (US) and Russia have 90 percent of the world’s nuclear weapons. The number of nuclear warheads of these two has decreased in 2021 due to the destruction of old weapons. However, the number of usable weapons remains stable. Israel, on the other hand, has never publicly claimed to have nuclear power, but it is believed that other nuclear-armed nations, including Britain and Israel, are also seeking to increase their power.

These 9 countries have the most nuclear weapons

India also has nuclear weapons, but India’s policy is that it will not launch nuclear weapons first. But no such policy or rules have been made by Pakistan. The nine countries that have nuclear weapons are the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea. Russia has 5977 nuclear weapons, the US has 5428, China has 350, France has 290, the UK has 225, Pakistan has 165, India has 160, Israel has 90, Israel has 90 and North Korea has 20 nuclear weapons.

What is India’s nuclear policy?

India had declared ‘No First Use’ nuclear policy in 1999. That is, India will never use atomic weapons first. India will only resort to its atomic bombs in the event of a nuclear attack. Whereas, there is no such rule or law in Pakistan. It is up to Pakistan’s leaders and top military officials to decide when and under what circumstances to launch a nuclear attack.
