Hyderabad Gang Rape Case: AIMIM MLA's among 6 youths in custody

Hyderabad Gang Rape Case:

The minor son of an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA has been named as an accused in the Hyderabad gang rape case. This incident had given rise to indignation and political conflict across the country, including Telangana. All six accused (one adult and five minors) are now in custody.

Five of the accused have been charged with gang rape, kidnapping, involuntary manslaughter and under sections of the POSCO Act, meaning they could face the death penalty, 20 years in prison, or life imprisonment. The sixth has been charged with violating a woman’s modesty, voluntarily injuring her and sexually harassing her.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said, “We have registered a case against him under strict sections, so he got maximum punishment for this heinous crime.”

Last week, BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao released a video clip and photos of the teenager and her attackers, alleging that the MLA’s son was present in a car with her. He alleged that the police were involved in covering up the case.

Initially, police said the legislator’s son was not involved in the gang rape, as he left the group at a local pastry shop.

“They had covered a short distance in Innova and then returned when the phone rang, so five people raped her,” the police commissioner said.

He admitted that it was only after the video and photos released by the BJP leader that he came to know about her involvement in the initial sexual assault on the girl.

The teen came to the club around one o’clock in the afternoon. Police say about 100 students had booked the pub, paying 1,300 per person.

The minors had booked the pub in the name of a person named Usman Ali Khan at Rs 900 per person.

Anand said, “The harassment of the girl started inside the pub at around 3 pm. After that, they picked her up from outside the pub after her friend left at around 5:40 pm.”

In the viral security footage, the girl is seen standing outside the pub with the suspected assailants. The legislator’s son seen in the video could face up to five years in prison.

The accused are 11th and 12th class students and belong to ‘politically influential’ families.

One of the minors caught by the police is the son of a local leader of the state’s ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti. Another minor is the son of a TRS leader of Sanga Reddy.

The Innova car from which the victim was allegedly assaulted was recovered from the farmhouse yesterday. The unregistered car was apparently recently handed over to a politician, the father of one of the juveniles accused of gangrape. It appears that it was cleaned after the attack, but forensic teams say they have still managed to gather enough evidence.
