Highest of post office of world gets letterbox-shaped office

New Delhi:

The post office, situated at the highest altitude anywhere in the world, has got a completely new look. The main reason behind the recent renovation is believed to be to boost tourism in the region. The post office is located at Hikkim in Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. It came into being in 1983 and situated at 14,567 feet above sea level which highest in the world. 

Vandita Kaul, Chief Post Master General of Himachal Circle, Indian Postal Department inaugurated the newly-constructed post office. Abhishek Verma, Assistant Deputy Commissioner was the chief guest of honor during inaugural ceremony. 

In her deliberation, Kaul said, “there is no post office in the country like this one here. It is the center of attraction in itself. Tourists from around the world send letters to their near and dear ones from the Hikkimi Post Office. It will also be very important for  tourism.”
