Health sector TUs warn of continuous strike from Monday

Health sector trade unions yesterday warned of a continuous trade union action from next Monday (4), if satisfactory solutions are not provided to their issues. Trade unions of eight services in the health sector   launched a two-day strike yesterday in protest of the ongoing fuel crisis and other transport related issues. Public Health Inspectors’ Union (PHIU) Chairman Upul Rohana said that eight unions including the Interim Medical Services United Front, Sri Lanka Public Health Inspector’s Association, Family Health Service Officers ‘Association, Entomologists’ Association, Dentists ‘Association, ECG and EEG Officers’ Associations have decided have joined strike. Meanwhile the Midwives have also decided to launch a countrywide trade union action citing several demands including transport allowances. Government Midwifery Service Association President Devika Kodithuwakku said that eight professions supplementary to medicine will support the trade union action.
