Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Head, Department of Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, said yesterday that the new Covid strain BA5 virus is spreading rapidly in many countries around the world.
The new Covid strain has spread to 63 countries around the world, but no cases of the virus have been reported in Sri Lanka so far, he said. He added that the new virus could spread from person to person very quickly. He said that the virus could reach Sri Lanka at any time and the public should be vigilant in this regard.
Dr. Jeewandara also said that people should always wear masks when using public transport or in other public places to protect themselves against the virus.
