Election Commission to announce presidential polls schedule today

New Delhi:

The Election Commission of India (EC) will announce the schedule of the presidential election today. President Ramnath Kovind’s term is scheduled to end on July 24.

The President is elected by the members of the Constituency, consisting of elected members of both the Houses of Parliament and elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of all the States, including the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Nominated members of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha or state legislatures are not eligible to join the electorate and, therefore, are not eligible to participate in elections. Similarly, members of the Legislative Councils are not eligible for the presidential election.

In 2017, the presidential election was held on July 17.
